The “Top 2% Scientists” list is compiled through a systematic analysis of citation data from the Scopus database. It evaluates scientists based on over 30 indicators across six key factors: citations, Hirsch H-index, co-authorship adjusted Schreiber Hm-index, and citations to papers as single author, single or first author, and single, first, or last author. Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields, with separate data provided for  “Career-Long Impact” and “Single Recent Year Impact”, ultimately identifying the top 2% of scientists worldwide.

The list provides a comprehensive measurement of scientists’ long-term research performance, offering a more objective and accurate reflection of their impact. Official statistics for the seventh edition indicate that 10,687 scientists from China are included in the career-long impact ranking across all 174 subfields, representing approximately 4.9% of all scientists listed. This marks an increase of about 18.6% compared to the sixth edition, which featured 9,013 Chinese scientists.
